Victorian Government wants to be an employer which is attractive to people starting work, graduates and people transferring from the private sector. We want to attract the best quality job candidates at all levels, so our career structure makes sure that you can enjoy real career development and opportunity.
You'll find our recently updated career structure is built on merit-based appointment to grades, but also allows for individual career progression. You and your manager will agree your progression criteria every year, so you'll always know what you need to achieve to move up to the next step of your career. Find out more about the VPS Career Structure.

We want to build a high quality workforce in the public sector, so we are committed to providing individual training and development opportunities to help you gain qualifications and skills that are portable and develop your talents.
This is done through an annual training plan for each employee. Your plan will contain specific training opportunities to help you meet your training objectives. This could involve study for formal qualifications (supported by study leave to prepare for and attend examinations) or attending conferences and seminars to keep up to date with all the latest developments.
The Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG) has been established as a 'centre of excellence' and offers programs to emerging public sector leaders. Here is more information about ANZSOG.

We offer competitive salaries to attract the best people to work for us. Our graded career structure rewards your performance with progression to the next salary grade. Your individual performance expectations are set out in a performance plan, agreed between you and your supervisor.
Salary packaging allows you to use pre-tax dollars to 'top up' superannuation, access a novated leased vehicle for full private use or take out discounted private health insurance cover. Other tax effective work-related and deductible items are offered, such as lap top computers, professional membership fees and home office expenses.
Direct employer contributions are made to an approved superannuation fund, under the Superannuation Guarantee legislation. Your superannuation can also be 'topped up' to a complying accumulation fund of your choice.

We recognise that there's more to life than work, so we support you in achieving a work/life balance. Subject to your employer's approval, part-time work, job sharing, home-based work and paid additional annual leave work modes have the potential to add more flexibility to your lifestyle. Additional support is also given to parents returning to work and those in dependent or elder care situations.
The Victorian Government's Action Agenda for Work and Family Balance is our commitment to creating an environment that allows a better balance between work and family commitments. Here is the full work/life agenda.
